{"id":9460,"date":"2025-06-04T03:05:32","date_gmt":"2025-06-04T03:05:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=9460"},"modified":"2025-06-04T03:05:32","modified_gmt":"2025-06-04T03:05:32","slug":"five-nations-elected-to-serve-on-unsc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipp-news.com\/?p=9460","title":{"rendered":"Five nations elected to serve on UNSC"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>The United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday elected Bahrain, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Latvia, and Liberia to the UN Security Council for two-year terms, starting on Jan 1, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>These five countries will serve through the end of 2027 on the 15-member body responsible for maintaining international peace and security.<\/p>\n<p>They will join the five non-permanent members elected last year \u2013 Pakistan, Denmark, Greece, Panama, and Somalia \u2013 who will serve through 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Drones<\/p>\n<p>The Security Council has 15 members: five permanent members \u2013 China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States \u2013 who hold veto power, and ten non-permanent members elected by the 193-member Assembly for staggered two-year terms.<\/p>\n<p>Elections are held annually by secret ballot, with seats allocated by regional group.
