SBCA officials among 18 issued arrest warrants

An Anti-Corruption Court in Karachi has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for 18 accused, including officials of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), a sub-registrar, and a builder, for allegedly facilitating the illegal construction of a multi-storey building in Kharadar area in exchange for bribes.

Judge Ameenullah Siddiqui heard the case. Investigating officer (IO) informed the court that SBCA officials allowed the construction of a seven-storey building despite initial permission for only three-storey structure.

The court was informed that the case was initially registered at Kharadar police station on the directives of the Sindh High Court and was later transferred to the Anti-Corruption Department for further investigation. After reviewing the evidence, the court approved the challan, which includes 19 accused, 17 SBCA officials, a sub-registrar and a builder. The court also ordered immediate arrest and production of the accused before the court.

Naqeebullah murder case

A special Anti-Terrorism Court at the Anti-Terrorism Complex in Karachi Central Jail heard the Naqeebullah murder case and expressed anger over the absence of key witness, SSP Dr. Rizwan. The investigating officer submitted a report to the court, stating that SSP Rizwan is unwell.

Regularisation of workers

The constitutional bench of the Sindh High Court has reserved its verdict on the plea for regularisation of over 500 contract employees of Pakistan Steel Mills after completion of arguments from all parties.

The court expressed astonishment over the request to regularise workers of a defunct institution. Justice Adnan-ul-Karim Memon remarked, “Steel Mills has been shut down since 2015. How can its employees be regularised?” Justice K.K. Agha noted, “If these employees are regularised, who will pay their salaries?” The petitioner’s counsel responded that the Steel Mills would bear the cost.
