PTI Senate arrangement sparks internal dissent

PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has opened a new Pandora’s box regarding his party’s seat-sharing agreement with the opposition in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Senate elections.

He has stated that the PTI’s leadership made the decision to strike the deal and the party’s incarcerated founder, Imran Khan, has yet to endorse or reject it. “If the founder refuses to accept it, then we will do whatever he decides,” Raja said on Monday while speaking to the media.

According to Raja, there were two opinions within the party on whether or not to contest the Senate elections and that it later decided to contest the elections after making an adjustment with the opposition

He claimed that for the four general Senate seats, PTI leader Advocate Zaheer Abbas had presented names last week on behalf of the founder.

“I don’t think Zaheer Abbas misrepresented anything. In our party, no individual makes decisions alone. The matter was communicated to K-P Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, but I can’t comment on what pressure he may have faced,” he added.

He said the founder’s list included candidates for four general seats, one technocrat seat, and one women’s seat, adding that the discussion was only about five seats.
