Bar officials noted that two deadly attacks on lawyers have occurred within the last 10 days, resulting in the deaths of senior lawyers Khawaja Shams-ul-Islam and Malik Nasir. However, officials argued that not even a single suspect has been arrested, due to police incompetence, and that lawyers are not being provided any proper security.
The association will take out a rally from the high court parking lot to the CM House, with a complete boycott of court proceedings to be observed.
The protest follows the August 1 murder of renowned legal practitioner Khawaja Shams-ul-Islam, and the Saturday night murder of another lawyer, Advocate Malik Nasir. Nasir, 38, was shot in the head at close range by unidentified armed assailants in the parking lot of Alfareed Apartment, Garden East, within the jurisdiction of Soldier Bazar police station. His body was shifted to the Civil Hospital. SHO Soldier Bazar, Waqar Azeem, reported that the incident appears to have stemmed from personal enmity, according to preliminary investigations.
Karachi Bar Association President, Amir Nawaz Warraich, strongly condemned the murder and urged authorities to swiftly identify and bring the assailants to justice. Following news of the incident, a number of lawyers gathered at the hospital in solidarity and grief.
