Drugs, lewd dances mar Saman Sarkar’s Urs

The annual Urs celebrations at the shrine of Sufi saint Saman Sarkar were marred by widespread disorder, mismanagement, and criminal activity. Despite the spiritual significance of the event, the atmosphere deteriorated due to poor planning by the Auqaf Department and police, resulting in traffic chaos, theft, and reports of drug dealing, gambling, and vulgar stage performances.

Security lapses and alleged bribery created an environment where criminal elements operate freely. Hundreds of pilgrims reportedly lost valuable mobile phones and cash.

The situation escalated when three expensive mobile phones belonging to Darya Khan Mari, nephew of influential politician Ghulam Qadir Mari, were stolen during the festivities. Local political and civil society groups condemned the deteriorating law and order situation.
