President Donald Trump announced Friday that he is extending ByteDance’s deadline to sell TikTok’s U.S. operations by 75 days, citing “tremendous progress” in negotiations.

Trump said that while the deal is not finalized, significant strides have been made toward ensuring regulatory compliance and safeguarding national security interests. “We’ve made tremendous progress, but more time is needed to secure the final approvals,” he said.

The decision gives ByteDance and its potential American partners additional time to meet terms set by the U.S. government regarding the future of TikTok’s operations within the United States. Trump emphasized he does not want the app “to go dark,” indicating his preference for a resolution that allows TikTok to remain operational in the country.

The extended deadline eases some immediate pressure on ByteDance, which has been navigating U.S. scrutiny over data privacy and security concerns due to its Chinese ownership.

While TikTok did not issue an immediate response, negotiations are expected to continue amid mounting global regulatory attention on Chinese tech firms operating in Western markets.

The development follows a March 31 executive order signed by Trump targeting the live entertainment ticketing industry, reflecting broader efforts to regulate digital platforms.

The White House has not yet disclosed the new exact deadline date, but the extension signals a willingness to find a collaborative resolution with both TikTok and Chinese stakeholders.
