Netanyahu wants US-Iran war to avoid jail, says Araghchi
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of attempting to draw the United States into another war with Iran to avoid imprisonment, warning Washington against renewed military action.
“Netanyahu is driving America into another war to stay out of jail,” Araghchi wrote on X on Sunday, accusing the Israeli premier of disregarding the consequences for Israel and US President Donald Trump.
“Last time you wanted to ‘finish the job,’ Iran emerged even stronger. Want to try your luck again? Be our guest. But be careful; we have unfinished jobs too,” he added.
Araghchi’s remarks came after Trump voiced support for Netanyahu ahead of Israel’s October 27 elections, praising their partnership in confronting Iran and suggesting that Washington might have to act independently if Israeli voters elected another leader.
“If Israel has the wrong Leader, which would be anyone other than Bibi, America will have to do this work ourselves, and I am not inclined to do so,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, referring to Netanyahu by his nickname.
Netanyahu has led Israel’s government since late 2022. His coalition has been described as the most radical in the country’s history.
He is also standing trial on corruption charges that could result in imprisonment if he is convicted.
The radical Israeli leader is also wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes in Gaza, which also issued an arrest warrant for him in November 2024.
