Karachi cold wave eases as temperatures slowly rise

A gradual increase in temperature and a decline in the ongoing cold wave are expected in Karachi from Wednesday. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the minimum temperature may remain between 9 and 11 degrees Celsius, while fog affected visibility on Tuesday morning.

According to the Met Office, the city’s maximum temperature on Tuesday was recorded at 26.5 degrees Celsius, 1.2 degrees higher than the previous day. It said that northeastern winds from Balochistan prevailed across the city for most of Tuesday morning, keeping the minimum temperature on the lower side. The lowest temperature was recorded at 9.5 degrees Celsius, while fog reduced visibility to three kilometers during the morning hours.

According to the PMD Early Warning Center’s forecast, the effects of the Balochistan winds are likely to weaken gradually. Over the next 24 to 36 hours, winds may initially blow from Quetta and later shift to the southwesterly sea breeze, resulting in more moderate weather and a reduction in the intensity of the cold wave.

The Met Office said overall temperatures are expected to rise gradually from today, although slightly cool conditions may persist during the morning and night hours over the next few days.

The minimum temperature on Wednesday is expected to range between 9 and 11 degrees Celsius, while on Thursday it may remain between 10 and 12 degrees Celsius. The Early Warning Center also warned that fog may affect visibility in the city on Thursday morning, while fog is also likely in the plains of the province during the morning hours.
