The police said that the federal government approved the Domestic Violence Act bill on January 26, which was signed by the President of Pakistan and the husband was killed on January 28. The victim’s brother and plaintiff in the case, Shabbir Hussain, said in his statement to the police that he had been living with his now deceased brother in the same house with his family. According to him, his brother had been married for two years, however, his wife had made it clear that she did not want to live with him and used to quarrel every day over trivial reasons.
Hussain said that, on January 28, he heard his brother and sister-in-law quarrelling, when he decided to intervene. As he opened the door to their room, he witnessed his sister-in-law pointing a 12-bore rifle at his brother. Despite his attempts to stop her, she fired, seriously injuring Jawad Hussain and escaped the scene. Jawad was shifted to PIMS Hospital in a seriously injured condition, where he died during treatment.
