According to Express News, PMD in its updated prediction said astronomical calculations indicate a strong likelihood of sighting the Ramadan moon on February 18, subject to favourable weather conditions.
The final announcement, however, will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
The department said the new moon is expected to be born on February 17 at 5:01pm. Experts noted that the moon’s age and prevailing weather conditions on the following day appear conducive for sighting, increasing the chances of visibility.
The PMD said there is a strong possibility that the Ramadan crescent will be sighted across various parts of the country on February 18, which would place the first day of Ramadan on Thursday, February 19.

In Karachi, the moon’s age on February 18 is expected to be around 26 hours. On that day, sunset is forecast at 6:25pm, while moonset is expected at 7:24pm, providing a suitable window for observation.
The PMD reiterated that while astronomical data support the likelihood of moon sighting on February 18, the commencement of Ramadan will be confirmed only after the official meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
