One of the highlights of the festival was the marathon race, which saw the participation of around 5,000 children, nearly 50 per cent of them girls-a development widely appreciated by the local community and organisers alike. The large turnout underscored growing awareness and acceptance of girls’ participation in sports in the desert region.
Thousands of people from across Thar attended the festival, reflecting the area’s vibrant cultural spirit and keen interest in recreational and sporting activities. Traditional events such as camel and horse races also drew significant crowds, offering a lively spectacle and adding to the festive atmosphere. Each event was organised on a scale that gave the impression of a national or even international-level competition.
The festival aimed not only to provide entertainment but also to create sporting opportunities for local youth and girls. Speaking at the closing ceremony Sindh Sports Secretary Munawar Ali Mahesar said the festival was organised to bring the youth of Sindh, particularly from remote areas like Thar, into the mainstream of sports.
