‘Robber’ held after shootout

Police claimed to have arrested a man wanted in more than 45 cases of robbery and theft after an encounter near Bhandi Wali Bridge.

According to the police, a patrolling team was checking vehicles at about 2:30am when two suspects riding a motorcycle approached from the direction of Kayanpur.

On seeing the police, they tried to turn back, but their motorcycle slipped due to high speed.

The suspects abandoned the motorcycle and opened fire at the police with pistols. Police officials took cover and retaliated. During the exchange of fire, one of the suspects was injured by firing of his accomplice.

The injured man was identified as Muhammad Husnain, resident of New Shah Shams Colony. Police seized a pistol from his possession, while his accomplice escaped towards Kayanpur.

The police said pickets had been set up to arrest him, while the injured suspect was shifted to a hospital by Rescue 1122.
