Several hospitals in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Mianwali have been approved for corneal and renal transplantation for the next three years after inspection by the Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority (PHOTA) and recommendations of its Executive Committee.

During a meeting of the monitoring committee of the authority chaired by Punjab Specialised Healthcare Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, the committee also approved PHOTA guidelines for skin transplantation and establishment of skin banks in Punjab.

A hospital in Lahore was approved for provisional registration for bone marrow transplantation for the next three years.

Proposals to make the authority paperless were also considered.

PHOTA Director General Professor Aamir Zaman Khan said those involved in illegal transplantation did not deserve any leniency.
