According to police sources, law enforcement agencies received credible intelligence that terrorists belonging to a banned outfit had planned attacks in Dasht and Quetta. The terrorists were reportedly hiding in the hilly terrain of the Kand Masori area.
Acting on the information, a joint team of CTD, Anti-Terrorist Force (ATF), and Quetta Police launched a targeted operation in the area with a heavy contingent of personnel. As soon as the security forces approached, the terrorists opened heavy fire and hurled hand grenades at the troops.
In the ensuing clash, Head Constable Rahmatullah, reader to SP Sariab, embraced martyrdom on the spot. Those injured include CTD Sub-Inspector Javed Gul, Constable Niaz Ahmed, ASI Waqar Ahmed of Siri Ab Police, Head Constable Noorullah, Constable Abdul Aleem, and Constable Taj Muhammad. All sustained serious injuries.
Security forces responded with effective retaliatory fire. The intense gunbattle continued for several hours, after which the terrorists managed to flee into the hilly terrain.
The body of the martyred officer and the injured personnel were immediately shifted to a hospital for medical treatment. After necessary formalities, the mortal remains were taken to the Police Lines, where the funeral prayer was offered.
Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti, Provincial Minister Ali Muhammad Jatak, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Hamza Shafqat, Additional Inspector General of Police Malik Muhammad Yousaf, Deputy Commissioner Quetta Mehrullah Badini, and other senior officials attended the funeral prayer.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti expressed heartfelt condolences to the family of the martyred policeman and prayed for the elevation of the martyr’s ranks and forgiveness of his sins.
