The move marks a rare and unprecedented step in the history of the K-P Assembly, aimed at bringing parliamentary proceedings closer to the people.
The unusual decision came after Chief Minister Sohail Afridi announced during a public rally in Mardan that the assembly session would be shifted to an open ground. Following the announcement, Speaker Babar Saleem Swati contacted Opposition Leader Dr Ibad and other parliamentary leaders for consultation. After mutual agreement, it was decided to convene the session for the first time at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium.
The Assembly Secretariat has issued the official notification for the sitting, invoking Rule 30 Sub-Clause (I), which empowers the speaker to call the ongoing session at any venue he deems appropriate.
All necessary arrangements for the historic session are being finalized. Special seating for Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs) is being arranged inside the stadium, along with a comprehensive sound system. The public will also be permitted to witness the proceedings from the stands.
According to officials, the entire stadium was handed over to the police on Monday for security and logistical control.
It has been agreed between the speaker and the opposition that the session will focus on routine legislative business. The chief minister is also expected to attend the sitting.
