According to eyewitnesses, unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle ambushed Malik Rehman while he was traveling on his usual route. Both he and his driver, Hafiz Syed Akbar, died on the spot. The assailants managed to flee the scene.
Local sources revealed that this was not the first attempt on Malik Rehman’s life; he had previously survived two assassination attempts. His funeral is scheduled to take place at 5 PM in his native village, Kunigo, Miranshah. A large turnout of local religious scholars, political figures, and residents is expected.
The attack has deepened anxiety in the community. “We are burying our loved ones every day. Why have our lives become so cheap? asked Haji Gul Wali Khan, a local elder. Social activist Irfan Dawar condemned the incident, stating, “This is not just the murder of one manit’s the death of peace in the region. Until the killers are brought to justice, we will continue to protest.”
Tribal leaders and religious scholars have called on the government to arrest the perpetrators immediately and implement lasting security measures to restore peace.
North Waziristan has seen a disturbing surge in violence in recent months, including bombings, suicide attacks, and targeted killings, often aimed at security personnel, tribal elders, clerics, and political workers.
