Dazzling fullback Reece Walsh was one of seven debutants named Monday in Australia’s 24-man squad to face England in the first rugby league Ashes series since 2003.

World champions Australia face England in a three-match series starting at Wembley on October 25.

Fresh from starring in an NRL grand final win for the Brisbane Broncos, 23-year-old Walsh is poised to earn his first Kangaroos cap alongside rugby union convert Mark Nawaqanitawase.

“This will be one of the most anticipated Kangaroo tours in recent memory,” Australian Rugby League Commission boss Peter V’landys said.

“The return of the Ashes after 22 years is not just a sporting event — it’s a celebration of rugby league’s rich heritage and enduring rivalry between two countries.”

The contest takes its name from the famed biennial Ashes cricket series played between Australia and England.

Australia will be captained by Penrith Panthers forward Isaah Yeo, the 2024 International Rugby League Golden Boot winner.

Cronulla Sharks hooker Blayke Brailey, Canterbury Bulldogs second-rower Jacob Preston, South Sydney Rabbitohs forward Keaon Koloamatangi, Broncos centre Gehamat Shibasaki and Canberra Raiders back Ethan Strange are the other fresh faces.

Former Wallaby Nawaqanitawase was included despite recently announcing he would return to rival code rugby union in 2026.

England have not faced Australia since the 2017 World Cup final, which the Kangaroos won 6-0.
