Karachi eateries caught using meat from dead chickens

The police have unearthed a gruesome racket in the city’s Moosa Colony where meat from dead chickens was allegedly being processed and supplied to fast food outlets, biryani stalls and hotels, posing a serious threat to the public health.

According to Express News, Gulberg police on a secret information raided a warehouse near the railway crossing in Moosa Colony on Sunday and seized over 80 kilograms of unhygienic chicken meat. Two suspects — Anwar son of Idrees, and Kamal, son of Manan — were taken into custody.

The raid followed a tip-off about dead poultry being stored in the warehouse. Acting on the information, law enforcement officials coordinated with the Sindh Food Control Authority (SFCA), launched an operation, recovering spoiled meat and whole dead chickens from the premises.

A case was registered against the suspects on government complaint. According to the FIR, the accused were preparing the contaminated meat for distribution when the police raided.

SFCA officials took custody of the confiscated the stock of spoilt meat and dispatched samples for laboratory test. During interrogation, the suspects ‘admitted’ to selling the dead chicken and spoilt meat to various eateries across Karachi.

Authorities have since expanded the investigation to identify the establishments involved and determine since when they carrying out the illegal activities. Officials have vowed strict action against all individuals and businesses involved in the illicit supply. .
