Housing scheme balloting draws criticism

The recent balloting conducted under the “Apna Ghar Apna Chhat” housing scheme has drawn strong criticism from unsuccessful applicants, who allege a lack of transparency and fairness in the entire process.

According to the applicants, despite submitting complete forms along with all required documents and proofs, their names did not appear in the balloting results, while several individuals who allegedly submitted incomplete applications were included.

Sources revealed that a total of 1,100 applications had been finalised prior to the draw; however, the balloting was carried out solely on the basis of data obtained from NADRA.

Applicants claim that the authorities have failed to clarify the criteria used to determine eligibility and inclusion in the final draw, raising serious questions about the credibility of the process.

They further alleged that certain applicants were added to the list later, even though they had not attached the mandatory documents.

Calling the move unjust and discriminatory, the applicants said it has deprived many deserving and low-income workers of their rightful chance to obtain a plot under the scheme.

The affected applicants have appealed to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to immediately cancel the balloting and conduct a fresh draw under a transparent and accountable mechanism.

They stated that after months of running from office to office, submitting documents repeatedly, and fulfilling every requirement, they were unfairly excluded while the balloting was concluded solely using NADRA’s database.

The applicants urged the government to ensure that the housing scheme remains fair and accessible to genuinely deserving citizens, and that all future balloting processes are conducted openly, transparently, and with clear criteria to protect the rights of rightful beneficiaries.
