The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has held the National Grid Company of Pakistan (NGCP) and the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) responsible for failing to restore electricity promptly after the nationwide blackout four years ago.
Nepra has fined both organizations Rs25 million each and ordered them to deposit the fines within 15 days. The regulator noted that on January 9, 2021, the country remained without electricity for 20 hours and the National Grid Company and the CPPA failed to restore power quickly.
Similar power disruptions occurred in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
