According to Rescue 1122, gas had accumulated in a room due to leakage from a stove. The fire erupted when someone attempted to light the stove, engulfing the room and those present inside.
The injured were identified as 38-year-old Rana Shahid, his wife 34-year-old Noreen Bibi, and their five children: 13-year-old Aisha, 12-year-old Arslan, eight-year-old Ayaan, seven-year-old Insha and five-year-old Shayan.
Rescue teams shifted the victims to the District Headquarters Dr Faisal MasoodTeaching Hospital, where sources said two of the injured were in a critical condition. The fire also caused significant damage to the property, reducing household items to ash, the sources added.
Meanwhile in Gujrat, Assistant Commissioner Sarai Alamgir Farooq Azam sealed a mini petrol pump and oil agency operating illegally in the district.
According to a district administration spokesperson, the action was taken under the directives of the Punjab government to curb illegal businesses and ensure public safety.
Authorities said that illegally operated petrol pumps and oil agencies not only violate regulations but also pose risks to public safety.
The AC emphasised that strict action would continue against all illegal businesses.
