According to TTAP spokesperson Akhunzada Yousafzai, the rally will be hosted by the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) and will take place in the G-9 area of the capital.
The spokesperson said that prominent opposition figures, including TTAP and Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai as well as senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership, will address the gathering, saying invitations will also be extended to other opposition parties to attend the rally.
The announcement has come a few weeks after opposition parties concluded a two-day multi-party conference, which served as a precursor to the protest drive.
The conference culminated with a declaration demanding the supremacy of the Constitution, immediate release of political prisoners, fresh elections and the annulment of what it termed “unconstitutional amendments” introduced by the current government.
Despite growing momentum, the alliance continues to grapple with internal challenges, chief among them being the reluctance of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) to formally join the movement. JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has so far withheld his support, citing concerns over the PTI’s decision-making structure in the absence of its jailed founder, Imran Khan.
While PTI leaders were earlier hopeful that JUI-F may come onboard after Eid, a formal agreement has yet to be reached.
Insiders say that most differences between PTI and JUI-F have been resolved, but the question of who will lead the alliance in Khan’s absence remains unresolved. Fazl is reportedly insisting that any PTI representative leading the movement must be vested with full authority, something PTI has struggled to ensure due to limited access to Imran Khan.
