All PPP groups and social media platforms have launched a campaign opposing the new setup.
Senior PPP city worker Ayaz Khan Pappu said the newly appointed city president is a “parachuted” leader with no connection to Rawalpindi. He questioned why the party high command could not find even a single jiyala from Rawalpindi’s 46 union councils to appoint as city president.
He said the new president is a close friend of the Chairman Senate and questioned why the Senate chairman was interfering in Rawalpindi’s party politics instead of focusing on Multan and Bahawalpur. He demanded the removal of the outsider city president.
Ayaz Khan welcomed the appointment of City Secretary General Asif Akbar, calling him a resident of Rawalpindi and a dedicated worker who has made sacrifices for the party. He said the new city president does not even reside in Rawalpindi.
“We are ordinary PPP workers and jiyalas. President Asif Zardari and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s leadership is united, but a parachuted city president is unacceptable,” he said.
He announced that a meeting of all veteran and sacrifice-giving workers has been convened to finalise a strong protest plan against the parachuted president.
