Senior politician and former federal minister Muhammad Ali Durrani, along with his wife, visited the homes of labourers from Bahawalpur who were martyred in the recent terrorist attack in Iran’s Sistan province.

Durrani met with the grieving families of Khalid Shaheed in Mehrab Wala and Jamshed Shaheed in Chakki Mor, offering condolences and prayers for the departed souls.

Calling for strong government support, Durrani urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to grant Rs100 million in compensation to each victim’s family.

“No amount can compensate for a human life, but it is the government’s responsibility to support the poorest families of the poorest region,” he stated.

He also demanded that the martyred workers be provided with housing, noting that they had gone abroad to improve their families’ living conditions. Additionally, he called on the government to take full responsibility for the education and welfare of the victims’ children.

Emphasising the urgency of the matter, the former minister stressed the need for the prompt repatriation of the workers’ bodies.

He announced plans to meet with the Iranian ambassador to convey the families’ appeals and urged the Iranian government to announce an aid package for the victims. “These labourers were martyred on Iranian soil—their protection was Iran’s responsibility,” he said.

Durrani strongly condemned the terrorists behind the attack and demanded their immediate arrest and strict punishment.

He also called for enhanced security measures for Pakistani labourers in Iran, stating, “These workers are the backbone of our economy. Targeting poverty-stricken labourers is an unforgivable crime.”

He concluded by insisting that the perpetrators of the attack must be held accountable, declaring, “Those responsible for this tragedy must face justice.”
