Pakistan, Sudan agree to expand security and cybercrime cooperation

Pakistan and Sudan have agreed to strengthen cooperation in security, internal affairs, cybercrime, police training and institutional development, following talks between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Sudanese counterpart, Lieutenant General Babaker Samra Mustafa Ali, in Islamabad.

The two ministers held a meeting followed by delegation-level talks, during which they discussed cooperation in several areas, including the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior, the two sides also decided to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in cybercrime.

The Sudanese interior minister said his country wanted to benefit from Pakistan’s expertise and experience in combating cybercrime. He described Pakistan as a brotherly country and said Sudan attached great importance to expanding cooperation with it across various sectors.

Naqvi said Pakistan was ready to extend all possible support for peace and reconstruction in Sudan. He said that NADRA remained ready to continue supporting Sudan’s civil registration system.

“NADRA’s assistance has helped issue 36 million citizenship cards, nine million national identity cards, 18 million birth certificates and 500,000 death certificates in Sudan,” he added.

Responding to a request from the Sudanese minister, Naqvi directed the relevant authorities to immediately resolve visa-related issues faced by Sudanese women married to Pakistani citizens.

The interior minister also offered professional training for Sudanese police officers in Pakistan and said Sudanese citizens could benefit from medical facilities in the country, with all possible assistance to be provided in the health sector.

The Sudanese minister thanked Pakistan for its support and expressed his country’s desire to expand cooperation in different fields.

Senior officials from the Interior Ministry, NADRA, the Federal Investigation Agency, the Anti-Narcotics Force, Islamabad Police and other relevant institutions attended the meeting.
