This saga, in the light of the off the record disclosure of the official sources, has unfolded in Hyderabad.
In an unceremonious transfer, SSP Adeel Hussain Chandio has been sent packing from Hyderabad. Chandio on Friday was ordered through a notification to report at the IGP’s office with no posting for the moment.
Responding to a query of The Express Tribune, Chandio flatly refuted this narration. “Bhai, it’s a routine transfer please,” he asserted.
The same notification reshuffled four SSPs, all in BS-18 unlike BS-19 grade of Chandio, but Hyderabad’s outgoing SSP is the only exception who has not been given any other posting for now. The SSP Shikarpur Shahzeb Chachar, a BS-18 officer, has been assigned the post of Hyderabad’s SSP.
His district, which is one of the hotbeds of riverbed based bandits, has been given to SSP Kandhkot-Kashmore district Muhammad Murad as an interim arrangement. Replacing former SSP Dr Farrukh Ali Lanjar, who was also removed in an undignified way under pressure of the legal fraternity’s highway blocking protests in March, 2025, Chandio’s stint in Hyderabad lasted for 11 months.
A large bungalow, located in the upmarket Muslim society area of Hyderabad, lies at the heart of the controversy. A party, which owned the bungalow, sold it to another party but the transaction was halted midway even though the latter had received the property’s possession.
The buyer, who belonged to Matiari district like the selling party, claimed to have paid a considerable amount to the sellers in addition to investing millions on the renovation. The selling party, as per the allegation of the buyer, forcibly took over the bungalow as their dispute plodded on.
The buyer knocked on the door of a court which ordered the district police to submit its report. Subsequently, SHO Qasimabad police station Sagheer Hussain Sangi visited the bungalow but he was allegedly met with resistance. A demand for his removal and arrest, because he trespassed on the property of a noble family, was sent to the police highups resulting in his suspension.
