Zayn dominates fan polls as ‘Die for Me’ soars

Former One Direction star Zayn has claimed this week’s fan-voted music crown, with his latest R&B-pop single ‘Die for Me’ sweeping Billboard’s poll after securing a commanding 80% of the vote amid a crowded field of new releases.

Music fans backed the track over fresh offerings from Tame Impala and Jennie, J Cole, Nick Jonas and sombr, cementing Zayn’s return to the spotlight as he gears up for the launch of his fifth solo studio album, ‘Konnakol’, due April 17 via Mercury Records and Island Records UK.

Released alongside a striking music video, ‘Die for Me’ marks the first taste of the upcoming project, which follows Zayn’s 2024 album ‘Room Under the Stairs’. Sharing his thoughts in a press statement, the singer described ‘Konnakol’ as deeply personal, saying the title refers to vocal percussion but also reflects a deeper connection to identity, heritage and creative evolution.

“I have always drawn on my heritage for inspiration,” Zayn said, adding that the new album represents a clearer understanding of who he is, where he comes from and where he hopes to go next.

Hot on the heels of the album announcement, Zayn also revealed dates for ‘The Konnakol Tour’, his biggest solo trek to date. Produced by Live Nation, the 31-date tour begins on May 12 at Manchester’s AO Arena and will take him across the UK, Mexico, North America and South America, before wrapping up on November 20 at Miami’s Kaseya Center.

The announcement follows the conclusion of his seven-night Las Vegas residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM, where he teased unreleased material and revisited fan favourites.

Trailing behind ‘Die for Me’ in this week’s poll were Tame Impala and Jennie’s ‘Dracula’ remix with 9%, J Cole’s The Fall-Off at 3%, and Nick Jonas’ Sunday Best and sombr’s ‘Homewrecker’, each on 2%.

With a new era under way, Zayn appears firmly back in stride – buoyed by fan support, fresh music and a globe-spanning tour.
