Feb 27 marks historic defeat for India and its proxies: Sharjeel Memon

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that February 27 is a memorable day for the nation, commemorating the day in 2019 when Pakistan’s armed forces captured Indian pilot Abhinandan. He asserted that on this same day in 2026, the enemy, India, and its proxies have faced a historic defeat.

Speaking at a ceremony organised by the Hyderabad Union of Journalists at the Hyderabad Press Club for the distribution of health cards to journalists, Memon said attempts were being made to push Pakistan into another war, but the enemy had suffered failure both historically and diplomatically. He added India lacked the courage for direct confrontation and was resorting to actions through proxy forces.

The senior minister alleged that terrorism was being instigated inside Pakistan through various elements, including those operating under the guise of the Afghan Taliban and militant groups such as the BLA.

He maintained that Pakistan had delivered a crushing response to every act of aggression and that “the enemy and its proxies have been humiliated.” He emphasised that while Pakistan believes in peace and dialogue, this policy should not be mistaken for weakness, warning that any hostile act would be met with a severe response.

Memon said Pakistan had extended hospitality and support to Afghan nationals for decades but, in return, faced challenges including terrorism, arms smuggling, and narcotics.

He criticised the Afghan Taliban regime for failing to prevent anti-Pakistan elements from operating from its territory and stressed that the entire nation stands united against terrorism, calling for national solidarity beyond political differences.

Highlighting media relations, the senior minister said the Pakistan Peoples Party has always respected press freedom and taken criticism constructively. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to journalists’ welfare, noting that 512 health insurance cards were distributed during the ceremony.

He also underscored the importance of healthcare, pointing to modern public hospitals in Sindh that provide free and non-discriminatory treatment, and pledged continued facilitation for journalists and citizens alike.

Later, speaking to the media during a public Iftar dinner at Rawal House in Rahuki, Memon said Pakistan was not symbolically but “in reality in a state of war against cross-border terrorists,” adding that the Pakistan Army had responded with full force and courage.

He stated that the armed forces had delivered a strong response to the Taliban regime and that the entire nation and leadership stand firmly behind them.

He paid tribute to Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, saying the nation was proud of the army’s bravery and sacrifices under his leadership. He added that public gatherings such as the Iftar were intended to connect with citizens and understand their concerns directly.

Reiterating his criticism of the Afghan regime, Memon alleged that it had forgotten Pakistan’s longstanding support and had instead become a proxy of India.

He claimed that elements of the Afghan Taliban were involved in terrorist activities inside Pakistan and emphasised that safeguarding the country’s borders and people remains the top priority, adding that operations against terrorists would continue until lasting security is ensured.
