The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday imposed a two-match ban on Lahore Qalandars’ opening batsman, Fakhar Zaman, over ball-tampering during the HBL PSL 11 match.

“Fakhar Zaman has been suspended for two HBL PSL matches after being found guilty of a Level 3 offence for breaching Article 2.14 of the applicable Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel,” said a statement issued by the board.

The PCB stated that the incident occurred during the closing moments of the match between Qalandars and Karachi Kings on March 29. The on-field umpires penalised the Qalandars with five runs, and the ball was changed before the start of the last over of the Kings’ batting innings.

“On-field umpires Shahid Saikat, Faisal Khan Afridi, TV umpire Asif Yaqoob, and fourth umpire Tariq Rasheed levelled the charge. Zaman denied the offence and contested the charge at a full disciplinary hearing in accordance with the code of conduct,” the statement added.

The statement further explained that match referee Roshan Mahanama conducted the disciplinary hearing, reviewing all evidence and providing Zaman with an opportunity for a personal hearing.

Qalandars’ captain Shaheen Afridi, team director Sameen Rana, and team manager Farooq Anwar were also present during the hearing.

The Qalandars’ next match is scheduled for April 3 against Multan Sultans, followed by a game on April 9 against Islamabad United. Zaman will not participate in either of these matches.
