Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah chaired a meeting to review wheat procurement for the rabi season 2025–26, directing authorities to accelerate the process and ensure timely achievement of targets.

Officials briefed the meeting that against a procurement target of 973,900 tons, only 1,061.600 tons of wheat have been purchased so far across the province.

The chief minister expressed serious concern over the slow pace of procurement and instructed the food department to immediately speed up operations. He emphasised that priority should be given to small farmers, particularly those receiving subsidies on essential agricultural inputs such as DAP fertiliser and urea under the Sindh Wheat Growers Support Programme.

The meeting, held at the Chief Minister’s House, was attended by provincial ministers including Sharjeel Inam Memon, Jam Khan Shoro, Mukesh Kumar Chawla, Makhdoom Mehboob-uz-Zaman, Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Mahar, Adviser Gian Chand Essrani, Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, and senior officials of relevant departments.

It was noted that the provincial cabinet has already set a wheat procurement target of one million tons with a support price of Rs3,500 per 40kg. Under the policy, procurement is being carried out from farmers registered under the subsidy-based wheat support programme.

The food minister briefed the CM on district-wise procurement performance, highlighting overall slow progress. He noted that some districts, including Jamshoro, showed relatively better results, while others such as Umerkot, Badin, Sanghar, and Mirpurkhas reported limited procurement.
