Celebratory firing at wedding claims life of teenage girl

A 19-year-old girl was killed by a stray bullet during aerial firing at a wedding procession in New Karachi late Wednesday night. Police have registered a murder case and arrested three suspects in connection with the incident.

The victim, identified as Laiba, was studying on the rooftop of her home in preparation for upcoming examinations when she was hit in the head by a bullet allegedly fired by guests at a nearby wedding celebration.

Police registered the FIR under Sections 302 (murder), 109 (abetment), and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on the complaint of the victim’s brother, Muhammad Tanveer.

According to the FIR, the groom, Ahmed Raza, allegedly encouraged his friends to engage in aerial firing during the wedding festivities. The accused named in the report include the groom and five of his friends: Umar, Abdul Rehman, Usman, Faizan, and Zeeshan.

New Karachi police station SHO Faizul Hassan confirmed that police arrested three suspects – Faizan, Abdul Rehman, and Dost Muhammad Junaid. During the arrests, police recovered three unlicensed weapons, a 30-bore pistol, a 9mm pistol, and a 22 rifle.

A police spokesperson stated that the wedding party was en route to Hyderabad and had been involved in celebratory fireworks and aerial gunfire. Forensic teams recovered multiple types of spent bullet casings from the crime scene, indicating the use of various firearms.
