Pakistan Railways on Wednesday announced a significant fare reduction for passengers during the upcoming Eidul Azha holidays.

The rail service will offer a 20% discount on fares for all trains under its management across all travel classes. This discount will be applicable specifically on the first three days of Eid.

However, the railway administration clarifies that this discount will only be available for ‘current bookings’, meaning tickets purchased specifically during the Eid travel window for journeys on those three days.

Notably, the discount will not apply to any additional Eid Special Trains, that are scheduled to handle the holiday rush.

A preliminary inquiry report into the derailment of the Pakistan Express, which was en route from Karachi to Rawalpindi, has revealed that poor maintenance of a bogie led to the near-disastrous accident.

According to railway sources, the bogie suffered a “hot axle” malfunction, an overheating issue that caused a critical pin to snap. As a result, the entire trolley beneath the bogie broke free and veered off track.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning near Mubarakpur, in the Multan railway division. While the train avoided a major catastrophe by sheer luck, damage was inflicted on at least two bogies and the track infrastructure.

According to railway officials, a dining car and a standard air-conditioned coach of the 45-Up Pakistan Express derailed. However, no passengers were injured in the incident.

As a result, several Up and Down trainswere delayed for hours at various stations within the Bahawalpur district.
