In a press release issued on July 2, PMD had warned that monsoon activity would intensify from the evening of July 5, with a westerly wave expected to approach upper parts of the country by July 6.

According to the advisory, heavy to very heavy rains are likely to cause flash flooding in local streams and nullahs in Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Dir, Swat and Kohistan, as well as parts of Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Northeast Punjab from July 5 to 8.

The PMD also warned of urban flooding in low-lying areas of Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Sargodha, Nowshera, and Peshawar between July 6 and 8, while landslides and mudslides are possible in hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The department advised farmers, travellers, and local authorities to remain vigilant and take preventive measures, adding that weak structures and billboards could also be vulnerable to damage during strong winds and heavy rain.
