Actor Arshad Warsi caught in fan frenzy after IPL wicket confusion

Bollywood actor Arshad Warsi found himself at the centre of unexpected online attention after Gujarat Titans pacer Arshad Khan dismissed Virat Kohli during an IPL 2025 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Wednesday.

Kohli, who had begun the tournament with a strong unbeaten 59, was dismissed early in RCB’s first home game of the season.

The incident occurred in the second over when Kohli flicked a delivery from Arshad Khan straight to deep fine leg, where Prasidh Krishna completed the catch.

Shortly after the dismissal, fans of Kohli mistakenly flooded Arshad Warsi’s Instagram account with comments, confusing the veteran actor with the young left-arm fast bowler.

“Kohli ko out kyun kiya,” one user wrote on Arshad Warsi’s latest Instagram post, which featured a photo alongside actor Ajay Devgn.

Another comment read, “Ee Circuit, tu Kohli ka wicket kyun liya re?”—a humorous reference to Arshad Warsi’s popular character from the Munna Bhai MBBS film series.

The mix-up triggered a wave of trolling and memes across social media platforms. Arshad Warsi has not publicly responded to the comments.

This is not the first time Kohli fans have confused names online. During the Champions Trophy, electronics company Philips faced trolling after New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips took a catch to dismiss Kohli, leading fans to misdirect their frustration at the brand’s social media page.

Despite the social media drama, the Gujarat Titans dominated the match. Mohammed Siraj, facing his former franchise, led the charge with a superb spell of 3 for 19. Arshad Khan contributed with economical figures of 1 for 17.

RCB were restricted to 169 for 8 in their 20 overs. Liam Livingstone scored 54 off 40 balls, while Tim David chipped in with 32 off 18.

In response, Gujarat chased down the target with 13 balls to spare. Jos Buttler remained unbeaten on 73 off 39 balls, while Sai Sudharsan added 49. Sherfane Rutherford closed out the game with a brisk 30* off 18, securing Gujarat’s second win of the season.
