Court grants NCCIA four-day physical remand of Iqrar-ul-Hassan
A Karachi court has granted the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) a four-day physical remand of Awam Raj Tehreek chief Iqrar-ul-Hassan in a case related to alleged harm to the state and national integrity.
Iqrar-ul-Hassan was produced before a judicial magistrate in Karachi’s East district, where the NCCIA requested a 14-day remand for questioning in the case.
During the hearing, the magistrate asked Iqrar-ul-Hassan whether he had been subjected to violence. He replied that he had not been beaten. Asked whether he had a lawyer, he said he had not yet hired legal representation.
The court granted the agency four days of physical remand instead of the 14 days it had requested. Case No. 101/2026 has been registered against him with the NCCIA.
Television anchor Waseem Badami also posted on X that the agency had produced Iqrar-ul-Hassan before a local court in Karachi, secured a four-day remand and registered a case under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
Iqrar-ul-Hassan was arrested from his home in Lahore in the early hours of Monday, according to his wife, Farah Iqrar. She said individuals dressed in plain clothes and wearing masks entered the house at around 3am and took him away.
Farah said the group broke down the ground-floor door to enter the house and took mobile phones, a laptop, a digital video recorder and CCTV footage. In a video message posted on social media, she said female personnel were also present and had “NCCIA” written on their armbands.
His first wife, Qurat-ul-Ain Iqrar, also expressed concern in a video message and appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for help.
Badami separately confirmed reports that Iqrar-ul-Hassan had been taken away by individuals in plain clothes accompanied by female personnel.
The reason for his detention was not clear at the time of his arrest. He was later produced before the court, which granted the NCCIA four days to question him.
