Viral Peshawar encounter sparks CM inquiry

A video showing the killing of a suspect during an alleged police encounter in the Badhber area of Peshawar has gone viral on social media, prompting the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chief minister to order a transparent inquiry into the incident.

According to police, the incident occurred in the Janay Khwar Teela Band locality, where Inzamam, son of Israr and a member of the Afridi clan, was killed in an exchange of fire.

Taking notice of the viral video, Chief Minister directed the provincial inspector general of police (IGP) to conduct a fair and impartial investigation. Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Dr Mian Saeed also took immediate notice of the incident and formed a high-level inquiry committee to ascertain the facts.

The committee will be headed by SSP Investigation Ayesha Gul, while SSP Coordination Khalid Khan and SP Saddar Division Raza Muhammad Khan will serve as members. The CCPO instructed the committee to thoroughly examine all aspects of the case and submit a comprehensive report at the earliest.

Mian Saeed emphasized that the inquiry must be conducted with complete transparency, professionalism, and merit. He also directed the concerned authorities to preserve all evidence and record witness statements in a timely manner.

Meanwhile, according to police sources, the deceased suspect had been wanted since 2024 in several criminal cases and was reportedly the leader of a mobile-snatching gang.
