The Defence police claimed to have arrested two bandits in injured conditions after an exchange of fire. Police had set up a checkpoint close to the Ayesha Mosque in DHA. They signalled the motorcycle-borne bandits to stop. Instead of stopping at the cops’ signal they opened fire in their attempt to flee. The police pursued them, and during the ensuing shootout, both bandits were injured and arrested.

They were identified as Syed Asif and Habib Omar. A 30-bore and a 9mm pistol were recovered from them.

The arrested bandits had shot dead a citizen Amir near Tooba Mosque in Defence on the third day of Eid when he resisted their robbery attempt. The bandits were also wanted by the police in multiple street crime cases.

Investigation revealed that Omar had a prior criminal record, having been previously arrested by the SIU.
