Pakistan rejects Afghan Taliban account of Angoor Adda border incident

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has rejected the Afghan Taliban’s statement on the Angoor Adda border incident in South Waziristan, calling it false and fabricated.

In a fact-check issued on Wednesday, the ministry said Afghan Taliban forces fired on unarmed civilians on the Pakistani side and shelled the area with mortars without provocation.

In its post on X, the ministry said: “their cowardly forces initiated unprovoked fire and mortar shelling on unarmed civilians on Pakistani side”.

Security sources said a mortar shell fired from the Afghan side hit a house in a populated area on October 27. One civilian was killed, and five members of one family were injured. Residents were left worried by the incident.

The ministry said Pakistani security forces replied at once. It said the “immediate, effective and disproportionate response” silenced the Taliban’s guns and destroyed seven of their posts.

It said the Taliban also suffered heavy human and material losses. Security sources said the forces hit several Afghan check posts in the response.

The ministry also dismissed the statements of the Taliban’s official spokespersons as baseless. It accused the Taliban of using false information to mislead their own people. It alleged the Taliban’s action follows a pattern set by India and its proxies.
