25 killed, over 240 injured in LPG cylinder blasts across Punjab

At least 25 people have been killed and more than 240 others injured, including women and children, in LPG cylinder explosions and fire incidents across Punjab between January 1, 2022, and December 10, 2025, according to data shared by the LPG Distributors Association.

Figures obtained by Express News show that a total of 488 LPG-related incidents were reported across the province. Of the injured, 286 people sustained injuries, while 44 were discharged after receiving medical treatment. Several victims have been left permanently disabled due to severe burns and injuries.

Lahore recorded the highest number of incidents, with 170 cases, followed by Faisalabad with 50, Rawalpindi with 38, and Gujranwala with 25. In contrast, Hafizabad and Lodhran were reported as the safest cities, with no incidents of cylinder explosions or fires.

According to the data, Multan reported 18 incidents with eight injured, while Sargodha and Sheikhupura each recorded 19 incidents, resulting in 23 and 29 injuries respectively and eight fatalities. Gujranwala saw 25 incidents with seven injured, while Bahawalnagar recorded 16 incidents and 10 injuries. Bahawalpur, Gujrat, Attock, Chakwal and Chiniot reported fewer incidents with limited injuries.

Other affected districts included Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Murree, Mianwali, Toba Tek Singh, Vehari, Mandi Bahauddin, Jhang, Jhelum, Kasur, Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur, where fires were largely brought under control promptly, limiting casualties.

The LPG Distributors Association said the majority of incidents occurred due to the use of substandard and non-certified cylinders. It added that action was taken against manufacturers of non-standard cylinders in cities including Lahore, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat and Multan, with the assistance of law enforcement agencies.

However, despite these measures, the association said non-standard LPG cylinders continue to be manufactured and sold openly, posing a serious risk to public safety.
