Established in 1950 by the governments of the United States and Pakistan, the USEFP has facilitated exchange programs for more than 9,000 Pakistanis and nearly 1,000 Americans. The Fulbright scholarship covers graduate study in the US, including tuition, living expenses, insurance, and air travel.
The USEFP said the program considers a broad definition of merit, including grades, test scores, leadership potential, and commitment to contributing to Pakistan’s development.
The scholarship is funded jointly by the US and Pakistani governments.

The Fulbright Program is open to all fields of study, particularly encouraging applicants in science, technology, AI, trade, economics, and natural resource management. Clinical medicine is excluded, but non-clinical public health applications are accepted.
The application portal is open at www.usefp.org. The deadline for submissions is April 1, 2026.
US Embassy Islamabad Director of Public Engagement Heidi Smith said, “The Fulbright Program is one of the United States’ most enduring exchange programs. Through it, we are investing in Pakistan’s next generation of leaders, entrepreneurs, and changemakers. Pakistani Fulbright graduates are transforming their communities and addressing critical challenges.”
She added, “Cultural exchanges and educational partnerships are important because they can improve shared prosperity, especially as the United States marks the 250th anniversary of its independence.”

Since 2005, more than 3,000 Pakistani students have received Fulbright scholarships for graduate studies in the US. Graduates continue to collaborate with American research institutions, businesses, and technology hubs, showcasing US technological expertise and reinforcing the US-Pakistan partnership
USEFP Executive Director Dr Peter Moran urged students across Pakistan to apply for the exchange program.
“The Fulbright Program in Pakistan has enabled thousands of students to study at US institutions known for academic excellence and research opportunities,” she said. “For 75 years, USEFP has nurtured Pakistani talent and facilitated American connections, fostering partnerships that address global challenges and promote prosperity for both nations.”
