Former AJK lawmaker Raja Mujahid Khan joins PML-N from PTI

Former Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly member Raja Mujahid Khan and his supporters have left Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the party said on Sunday.

PML-N held a formal induction ceremony in AJK attended by Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Amir Maqam, Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi, former AJK minister Mushtaq Minhas, PML-N AJK President Rana Ghulam Qadir, and former senator Chaudhry Tanveer.

At the event, Raja Mujahid officially announced his and his colleagues’ decision to join PML-N. He said, “Raja Imtiaz had brought us together in 2006, and we had won the seat. Differences arose due to ignoring Raja Imtiaz. Today, we return to the platform under PML-N. InshaAllah, we will strengthen Azad Jammu and Kashmir and ensure PML-N’s success in upcoming elections.”

Federal Minister for Railways Mohammad Hanif Abbasi welcomed Raja Mujahid to PML-N, saying the induction was inspired by Raja Imtiaz’s vision. He expressed confidence that PML-N would achieve success in the next AJK elections and vowed to continue efforts for the welfare of the region.

PML-N AJK President Rana Ghulam Qadir urged unity within the party, saying, “Our focus should be on defeating the opposition, not each other. Raja Mujahid, we welcome you to PML-N.”

Engineer Amir Maqam praised PML-N’s performance in AJK, stating that the joining of these leaders reflected public confidence in the party’s governance.

He highlighted achievements including the resolution of 192 cases and 177 FIRs, compensation for families of the deceased, initiatives on the Mangla Dam Raising Project, health card implementation in Kashmir, Gilgit, and Islamabad, and development of educational and infrastructure projects.

Maqam emphasised ongoing projects such as the development of motorways up to Mirpur, merit-based education initiatives, and water supply schemes. He added that obstructionist measures such as protests or school closures do not benefit the people and called for cooperative efforts for Kashmir’s progress.

AJK saw a change in government last year when PML-N and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) ousted Chaudhry Anwarul Haq through a no-confidence motion. Faisal Mumtaz Rathore of the PPP was elected the 16th Prime Minister of AJK with 36 votes in the 53-member assembly, supported by PML-N, while only 44 legislators were present.
