Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan sarcastically described Perry as “basically a guru now,” after her comments about how the flight had been a transformative experience. Perry had flown with CBS anchor Gayle King, astronaut Amanda Nguyễn, former NASA engineer Aisha Bowe, producer Kerianne Flynn, and Jeff Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sánchez during the April 14 mission.
Rogan also mocked Perry’s decision to bring a daisy on board — a tribute to her daughter — joking, “It shows how quick the flight was — the flower was still alive.” Perry later said the flower symbolised resilience and motherhood, calling the journey the “second greatest” thing she’s ever done, after becoming a mother.
The Blue Origin mission, completed on April 14, marked the 104th woman to pass the Kármán Line, the internationally recognised boundary of space. However, Rogan took issue with labelling the crew as astronauts, noting their minimal training compared to traditional NASA candidates.
“Let’s celebrate female astronauts,” Rogan said. “Because a lot of men astronauts, they have to go to school, learn to be pilots, join the Air Force or Navy, then get appointed by NASA.”
“How great is it that they just get called astronaut?” Rogan said. Co-host Tim Dillon noted that female astronauts have already been in space for decades. In response, Rogan quipped, “Let’s not minimize this,” highlighting his scepticism about the celebratory framing of the flight.
Perry’s emotional return — including kneeling to kiss the Texas ground — sparked reactions online, including mockery from Wendy’s. Nonetheless, the singer said she hoped to model courage and fearlessness for her daughter through the experience.
