Karachi police arrest key ‘masi gang’ figure with interpol’s help

Karachi police have arrested the leader of the notorious “masi gang” with the assistance of Interpol, officials confirmed on Monday.

The suspect, Imran, son of Abbas Ali, was apprehended after being detained in Saudi Arabia and subsequently handed over to Pakistani authorities.

Imran had previously obtained a free visa to Saudi Arabia using money acquired through theft. Two female accomplices linked to the gang had already been arrested earlier.

According to Bin Qasim Investigation DSP Shahnawaz Memon, Karachi police initiated a request to Interpol for a red warrant against Imran, which led to his arrest in Saudi Arabia.

Imran served a nine-month sentence under Saudi law before being transferred to Pakistani officials in Islamabad last Sunday. He was then taken into custody by the Bin Qasim Investigation Police.

Investigations revealed that Imran ran a gang operating in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, primarily involving female thieves known as ‘masis’. These women would first secure domestic work and then steal gold and cash from homes. Imran provided the gang members with transport services and all necessary facilities to carry out their activities.

Two women, Darakhshan and another from Steel Town, were involved in various robberies. Imran’s gang also targeted the residence of political leader Saadia Javed in Darakhshan. Two other female accomplices, Shahida and Gulab Zadi, had already been arrested in connection with the gang’s crimes.

Imran is also wanted by the Punjab police, where multiple cases have been filed against him. Authorities plan to present him before the Malir Court to request remand for further investigation.
