Earlier, a key meeting was chaired by Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi where the performance of the railway police was discussed. During the session, it was revealed that, following the minister’s directives, the ticket-checking campaign has been made more effective.

Abbasi warned that both passengers travelling without tickets and those facilitating such travel would face legal action. “Those travelling without tickets will face imprisonment,” he stated, urging that strict actions against ticketless travel continue.

The meeting also discussed efforts by the railway police to combat theft, smuggling, and other crimes, highlighting the implementation of the anti-encroachment policy. Abbasi’s directives to clear decades-old encroachments from railway land are ongoing, with the railway police ensuring that every inch of the railway’s land is recovered.

In June, Pakistan Railways announced that its luxury saloon coaches, previously reserved for senior government officials, would now be available for booking by the general public.

According to Express News, the decision was made on the directive of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The initiative aimed to extend premium travel facilities to ordinary citizens and optimise the use of existing railway resources.

Five luxury saloons, which had been used by the Prime Minister, federal ministers, the Chairman of Pakistan Railways, the Chief Executive Officer, and the Inspector General of Railways, were now accessible to any passenger wishing to book them.
