Hina Javed’s family seeks judicial commission, rejects re-investigation
The family of Hina Javed, a digital media executive who was found murdered in the bathroom of her apartment in Rawalpindi, has rejected the police decision to reopen investigations into her case and reiterated its demand for the formation of a judicial commission.
The family also expressed its lack of confidence in the Punjab Police’s impartiality.
According to the family, SSP Investigation Saifullah contacted them and asked them to visit his office to sign a request seeking the transfer of the investigation to police in another district.
However, the family said it refused to endorse the proposed re-investigation.
The family said that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi had advised them to seek the transfer of the investigation to another district’s police, but they remained dissatisfied with the findings of the additional inspector general (AIG).
They questioned how junior officers could reopen the case and overturn the findings of a high-level Punjab Police committee that had already cleared the nominated suspects.
The family said there is no point in another investigation by subordinate officers and maintained that only a judicial commission could ensure a transparent probe.
The family has also sent a letter to the Punjab Assembly’s parliamentary committee on interior, raising concerns over the proposed re-investigation and renewing its demand for a judicial commission.
Separately, Hina’s brother, Fahad Javed, has submitted an application to the prosecutor general under the Right to Information law, seeking copies of forensic reports and other evidence collected in the case.
The application said police had sent DNA samples, mobile phones, a laptop and other items recovered from the crime scene to the Forensic Science Laboratory in Lahore, but copies of the reports had not been provided to the complainant despite their receipt.
The family has asked authorities to provide copies of all forensic reports and other evidence in accordance with the law.
