Father, siblings arrested over 18-year-old’s death in Lahore

Police have arrested the father, two brothers and a sister of an 18-year-old girl in connection with her death in Lahore’s Sanda area, saying a preliminary post-mortem examination found signs of sexual abuse and severe physical assault.

The victim, identified as Maham, was brought to Ganga Ram Hospital in critical condition on September 26. She later died from her injuries, while the suspects allegedly left her body at the hospital and fled, according to police.

Four family members arrested

Police registered a murder case on their own complaint and arrested the victim’s father Muhammad Anwar, brothers Hammad and Hamza, and sister Hina.

According to police, initial investigations found that Maham had allegedly been subjected to repeated violence involving pipes, iron rods and other objects.

A spokesperson for the DIG Operations said investigators also found injuries to the victim’s sensitive body parts that were allegedly caused by a hot iron and knife.

Police said the preliminary post-mortem examination indicated sexual abuse. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged abuse and assault.

Police probe continues

Police said the victim’s father, sister and two brothers were allegedly involved in the violence and sexual abuse. The suspects have reportedly confessed during questioning, police said.

The alleged confessions have not been independently verified, and the investigation is continuing.

Police said Maham was raised by her paternal aunt after her mother died a few months after her birth.

The case remains under investigation, with police saying further legal action will be taken in light of the evidence collected.
