India beat Pakistan by 19 runs to win Asian Games cricket gold
India beat Pakistan in the Asian Games cricket final to win the gold medal after Pakistan fell 19 runs short of their 212-run target.
For Pakistan, Hasan Nawaz scored 96 off 51 balls to keep his team in contention in the match played in Nishin, Japan.
However, he received little support from the rest of the batters, with only Saim Ayub making a significant contribution with 29 off 22 balls.
Earlier, India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bat first. The two captains did not shake hands at the toss.
India posted 211-6 in their 20 overs, with Abhishek Sharma scoring 61, Tilak Varma an unbeaten 51, Shivam Dube 27, Shreyas Iyer 21 and Ishan Kishan 20.
Pakistan’s Arif Manhas and Ahmed Daniyal took two wickets each.
Pakistan’s fielding was below par, with the team dropping a couple of catches and missing a run-out opportunity.
