Lahore domestic worker alleges custodial torture by police

In an alleged case of custodial torture, a domestic worker in Lahore has accused police officials of subjecting her to violence after she was called in over suspected theft.

The woman, identified as Saadia, alleged that Assistant Sub-Inspector Bilal called her to the Shahdara Town police station, where she was questioned over the alleged theft.

She alleged that male police officials tied her to a charpoy and subjected her to physical torture.

Saadia said she sustained serious injuries as a result of the alleged assault and was allowed to leave, but was unable to walk properly due to the injuries she had sustained.

She was taken to Mian Munshi Hospital for a medical examination, where bruising was found on her legs and feet.

Saadia has called for action against the police officials allegedly involved in the incident.
