NCCIA rescues 13-year-old Karachi girl allegedly targeted by dark web network
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has rescued a 13-year-old girl in Karachi who was allegedly targeted by an online network linked to the dark web, officials said.
The operation was carried out following information provided by an international intelligence agency, according to NCCIA officials.
Officials said the girl had allegedly been assigned a series of dangerous tasks through the online network. Her first task was to poison a cat, which she reportedly carried out.
She was subsequently instructed to inflict serious harm on herself. However, the NCCIA intervened before she could act on the second instruction and informed her parents about the situation, officials said.
According to the authorities, the girl’s parents were unaware of her online activities.
Investigation underway
The NCCIA is tracing the online accounts that had been in contact with the girl and investigating the network’s activities, officials said.
Investigators are also examining whether the group targeted other children and attempting to identify individuals associated with it.
Further details about the network, the people behind it and the circumstances in which the girl came into contact with its members have not been disclosed.
The investigation is continuing.
