Trump backs Netanyahu’s re-election bid, urges Israel to ‘finish the job’
US President Donald Trump has urged Israelis to re-elect Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, reaffirming his support for the Israeli leader and calling for the military campaign against Iran to continue until its objectives are achieved.
In a post on his Truth Social platform on Sunday, Trump referred to an endorsement letter he published on October 18, in which he praised Netanyahu as an “outstanding Warrior Prime Minister” and highlighted their close partnership in military operations against Iran.
“As everyone is aware, including the enemy, Bibi and I have had a great relationship in winning together,” Trump wrote, referring to the US military campaign against Iran, dubbed Operation Epic Fury.
“Vote for Bibi Netanyahu for Prime Minister. We have to finish the job that we started!” he added.
Trump claimed that Iran had lost its navy and air force, while its military and economy were in disarray.
He also asserted that Iran’s inflation had reached 301%, that a naval blockade had prevented it from exporting oil and that two levels of its military and civilian leadership had been eliminated.
In his October 18 letter addressed to the Israeli public, Trump described Netanyahu as a “Great Warrior Prime Minister” and an “even greater Partner for Peace” in confronting Iran, citing what he characterised as Tehran’s decades-long threats against Israel and the United States.
Trump argued that Iran would eventually have acted on its rhetoric had it not been confronted, claiming the country had been “systematically destroyed, both militarily and financially”.
He also warned that Washington would have to take over the effort if Israeli voters chose another leader.
“If Israel has the wrong Leader, which would be anyone other than Bibi, America will have to do this work ourselves, and I am not inclined to do so,” he wrote.
Praising Netanyahu for remaining resilient in the face of domestic and international opposition, Trump said the Israeli leader had grown stronger under pressure and represented the kind of partner Washington expected from Israel.
He concluded his endorsement with an emphatic message backing Netanyahu’s re-election bid: “BIBI NETANYAHU WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!”
